Writing down your thoughts and emotions is a great approach to vent out your emotions, or at least that is what I have heard. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to test it out myself.
Even without having completed this exercise, I can see the advantages I could gain from doing so. One of the most obvious being the avoidance of rushed and stupid actions. Our initial response is always emotionally driven and rushed, consequently, we often regret our actions sooner or later. We could save ourselves time and grief by taking a few moments to spill out our frustrations on a piece of paper. You will feel more calm and peaceful after. Furthermore, because everything is written out on paper, it’s easier to visualise your options and see what’s in front of you, and hopefully find a better solution than the one you originally had. Simply writing down our problems could make us recognise, in the grand scheme of things, it may not be particularly significant, not enough for us to stress and lose sleep over.
I will write about my own experience in the future when I get the chance and hopefully discover more benefits to the technique.
