Today I read ‘Two Reasons Why Everyone Needs To Write Clearly’ by Darius Foroux.
His two reasons for writing clearly were:
1. Clear writing improves your credibility
It doesn’t matter whether your piece of writing is grammatically correct, or if it utilises a myriad of intellectual words if in the end, it doesn’t make sense. If it doesn’t resonate with the reader, it doesn’t pose a purpose.
A helpful technique Darius Foroux recommends is to imagine that there is a know-it-all companion who always critiques your work; this will help you evade easily avoidable mistakes. Furthermore, writing clearly will save you from misunderstandings that stem from ambiguous writing.
2. Clear writing saves you time
“When you write something, the meaning has to be 100% clear. That means there should only be one interpretation of your words—even if you’re dealing with sensitive and ambiguous topics.” – Darius Foroux
To save other’s time and yourself valuable time in the future, Darius Foroux advises people to let their writing sit, this is because our initial thoughts are usually rushed and need to be thought over.
I completely agree with this statement, I’m sure many people would because I am sure we have all had those moments of dread straight after we hit send.
